S Korea response to crowd crush ‘inadequate’, says police chief

A South Korean police official has acknowledged that the force’s response to a stampede that resulted in the death of at least 156 in Seoul on Saturday failed. He promised to put in place stricter measures to ensure the country’s worst-such incident did not recur.
President Yoon Suk-yeol has declared a period of national mourning and paid his respects at a memorial on Tuesday.
